Roundup: Varsity Girls, Boys, MS Boys, JV Boys All Win

Evie Adams scored 16 points and the SJCS Varsity girls opened their season with a 63-13 win over Greer Middle College in the Impact Sports Invitational at Spartanburg Christian Academy on Tuesday night.

Tiffany Helmer scored 13 of her 14 points in the first half for the Knights, who led 34-8 at the break. Eliza Carter finished with 12 points.

Also for the Knights, Brianna Armocida had eight points, Gianna Franchina five points and Eva Cifuni, Emi Reese Hand and Ava Wright two points each.

It was the only game St. Joe's had been scheduled to play in the tournament. The Knights' next game will be their first home game of the season, at 6:00 PM Thursday against Blue Ridge.

Middle School Boys

Sam Winburn scored 14 points and the Middle School Knights defeated visiting Mitchell Road Christian Academy 47-20 in their season opener Tuesday.

Nine players scored in all for the Knights, who outscored the Eagles 13-2 in the second quarter to take a 34-12 halftime lead.

George Covington scored nine points for the Knights. Noah Boughner had eight points, Zander Estevez six points and Keys Ellison five points. Brayden Royal had two points and Graham Flynn, Cooper Grace and Miles Parrick each had one point.

Middle School Girls

The Middle School girls lost to Mitchell Road on Tuesday, 34-23. The Knights trailed 25-21 early in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles pulled away with a 9-0 run.

Hazel Grace and Zoe Theodore each scored eight points for the Knights. Stella Trickett had three points, and Caroline Burress and Katy Gernon had two points apiece.

Varsity Boys

The SJCS Varsity boys made 7 of 8 free-throw attempts in overtime and held on to beat visiting Travelers Rest 71-67 on Monday night.

The Knights led by 10 points with six minutes remaining and still led 54-46 when Deon Jamerson scored inside with 2:38 left in regulation.

But the Devildogs rallied and tied the score at 60-60 on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Knights never trailed in overtime. Deon Jamerson scored four of his 19 points, Smith Crick, who also scored 19, made all four of his free-throw attempts in the extra period and Bryson Smith made 2 of 2 from the line in overtime.

Deux Greene, fouled with 1.9 seconds left, made the first of his two shots -- his only point of the game -- to make it 71-67 and clinch the victory.

Smith finished with 14 points, and Keon Jamerson had 12 points. Juan Montoya had three points, Carter Bears two points and Caleb Hood one point.

The Knights, who improved to 3-0, will be back in action Thursday, hosting Blue Ridge at 7:30 PM.

Junior Varsity Boys

John Smart scored seven of his 12 points in the fourth quarter Monday, leading the JV Knights to a 33-27 win over Travelers Rest.

St. Joe's led 21-20 after three quarters, but Smart had two field goals and made all three of his free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to help the Knights pull away.

Sam Covington had nine points and Will Saunders had eight points for the Knights. Noah Ball had three points, and Jack Stewart had one point.
