Varsity Girls Clinch Share of Region Title on Senior Night

The SJCS Varsity girls basketball team clinched a share of the Region 1-1A championship Thursday night with a 37-16 Senior Night victory over visiting Brashier Middle College.

The Knights (17-8, 7-1) tied for first place with Southside Christian (14-4, 7-1), which beat Christ Church 48-42 Thursday.

St. Joe's and Southside Christian will play a tiebreaker to determine the region's top seed tonight at 6:00 at Brashier Middle College. The teams split their regular-season meetings; the Sabres won the first 37-35 on a shot at the buzzer, and the Knights evened the score with a 45-28 win Tuesday night. All tickets for the game will be $8 and cash only.

After defeating BMC, the Knights honored their three seniors -- Chloe Duncan, Harper Greer and Adelia Stefanik -- for their contributions to the program.

With St. Joe's ahead 5-4 early in the second quarter, Greer scored eight of her 10 points, and the Knights rattled off 12 points in a row to break the game open and take a 17-4 halftime lead. They led 28-10 after three quarters.

Evie Adams added six points, and Lola Kelly and Caroline Mruz each had five points. Ava Catherine Elder had four points, Tiffany Helmer three points and Stefanik and Emi Reese Hand two points apiece.
