Varsity Boys' Season Ends With Playoff Loss at Denmark-Olar

Denmark-Olar went ahead in the second quarter and went on to defeat St. Joe's 58-50 in their Class 1A boys basketball first-round playoff game Wednesday night.

Owen Smith had five 3-pointers and scored 20 points for the visiting Knights, who ended the season with a record of 19-8.

St. Joe's, which finished third in Region 1, led 9-4 after the first quarter, but Region 4 runner-up Denmark-Olar had a 22-14 advantage by halftime.

The Knights stayed even with the Vikings (18-5) in the second half with the help of eight 3-pointers -- three by Owen Smith, two each by Bryson Smith and Smith Crick and one by Jaylen Townsend.

Bryson Smith finished with eight points, and Crick and Matteo Mazza each had six points. Townsend and Carter Bears had three points each, and Gabe Nelson and Brogan Poole had two points apiece.

The loss ended a noteworthy campaign for the Knights, who set school records for the best start to a season (14-0) and longest winning streak (14 games).
