Students, Teachers Enjoy Spring Break Trip to Washington, D.C.

Over the spring break weekend, Mrs. Palmer, Mr. Carr and Mrs. Carr led 14 SJCS students on an educational trip to Washington, D.C., that included a variety of museum visits and activities.

Students had a nighttime memorial tour, a U.S. Capitol tour through Senator Tim Scott’s office a visit to various Smithsonian museums. Two of the tour’s highlights were the African American History Museum (and its cafe for lunch) and the U.S. Holocaust Museum.

Part of the cost of the trip was subsidized by different Holocaust foundations to further the education of students about the Holocaust. Nearly an entire day was spent there, and that evening, the students and teachers met to discuss, reflect and examine what they had experienced and learned.

Other activities included visiting the memorials in the daytime, learning how to ride the Metro and taking lots of pictures of the early blooming cherry blossoms. It truly was a great trip!
