SJCS Girls Defeat Calhoun County, Advance to Second Round
St. Joseph's and Calhoun County were both sluggish early in their Class 1A girls basketball first-round playoff game Tuesday night.
The Saints struggled to score as the game wore on. The Knights did not, cruising to a 49-14 victory.
St. Joe's (19-8) will play at home again in the second round at 6:00 PM Friday against McBee (11-5), a 49-22 winner over Dixie in the first round.
Against Calhoun County, the Knights led only 7-1 after one quarter, but they outscored the Saints 11-4 in the second quarter and 13-4 in the third to take a 31-9 lead.
Evie Adams and Tiffany Helmer led the way for the Knights, scoring 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Lola Kelly contributed eight points, and Adelia Stefanik had six points. Ava Catherine Elder, Harper Greer and Stella Nash each had two points.
