Volleyball Takes 6th at Dorman; Also Cross Country, Girls Golf

The SJCS Varsity volleyball team finished sixth overall and was runner-up in the Silver Division at the Dorman Tournament of Champions over the weekend.

The tournament annually gathers an elite field of 16 teams, all from programs that have won state championships in the past. St. Joe's, the smallest school in the field, played eight matches Friday and Saturday, all but one of which went to three sets.

The Knights, No. 1 in Class 1A and No. 22 overall in the current MaxPreps rankings, defeated Bishop England (No. 11 and No. 1 in 2A), Powdersville (No. 17) and Aiken (No. 10 in 4A).

St. Joe's lost against top-ranked North Myrtle Beach, No. 4 Lexington, No. 6 Wando and No. 9 Nation Ford twice, including in the Silver final. Lexington, Wando and Nation Ford and No. 2, 3 and 4, respectively, in 5A.

The Knights (15-11-1, 4-0 in Region 1) will return to region play at 7:00 PM Tuesday, hosting High Point Academy.

Cross Country

The SJCS girls took first and the Knights' Carter Dausen was the individual winner in the boys race in Saturday's Tiger Invitational cross country meet at Southside High School.

In the girls race, St. Joe's had seven of the top 10 finishers, led by runner-up Daniela Fernandez (22:39). The others were Beatrice Hamilton (third, 23:08), Francie Thompson (fifth, 23:24), Brigid McKinley (sixth, 23:33), Jordan Pearse (seventh, 23:38), Caroline Powers (eighth, 23:52) and Danielle Launius (10th, 24:52).

Dausen, a freshman, finished first in 19:10, and the SJCS boys came in third. The Knights' Dean Remsberg was third in 19:29.

Luke Capelle (seventh, 21:24) was the top finisher for St. Joe's in the JV boys race.

Girls Golf

The SJCS girls golf team edged Eastside, 185-186, in a match at Greer Golf Club on Tuesday, September 19. Greycen Baker shot a season-low 39 and was low gross in the field. Other leading scorers were Meghan Noonan, Julia Conroy and Gabby Bucci, who carded her lowest score of the season by 11 strokes.

The next day, the Knights took fifth (out of 15 teams) in the first girls Greenville County Championship Willow Creek Golf Course in Greer. Click HERE for more on the county tournament.

The Knights will play Southside Christian at 4:30 PM Thursday at Carolina Springs Golf Club in Fountain Inn.
