JV Girls Win 5th in a Row; JV, 6th Grade Boys Also Victorious

Ava Wright and Bia Williams each scored six points and the SJCS Junior Varsity girls beat visiting High Point Academy 25-21 on Thursday night.

The Knights have won five consecutive games and seven of their last eight, improving to 8-4.

St. Joe's led 12-6 at halftime, and Williams scored on a drive and then a steal and layup to make it 16-6 with four minutes left in the third quarter.

High Point had the lead down to 24-21, but Lili Franek clinched the victory with a free throw with 2.3 seconds remaining.

Lyle Cate Frye had three points, and Franek, Avery Phillips, Anna Cannon, Gabi Demas and Lillie Mendelson each had two points.

The JV girls also won at home on Wednesday, defeating Shannon Forest 22-12.

Junior Varsity Boys

Caleb Hood scored 11 points and Sam Patterson added nine points in the JV boys' 33-29 victory over High Point Academy on Thursday night.

With St. Joe's leading 10-9 in the second quarter, Jay Sanders knocked down a 3-pointer, Chapman Doar hit from the outside and Sanders followed with another basket. High Point scored at the end of the quarter, but the Knights had a 17-12 halftime advantage.

The Knights (6-6) closed the third quarter with a 5-0 run, capped by Hood's jumper from the free-throw line that made it 29-17.

Sanders finished with five points. Jack Stewart had four points, and Doar and Pierce Jones each had two points.

6th Grade Boys

Max Hayden scored 24 points and George Covington pitched in 10 points and the 6th grade boys defeated visiting Christ Church 34-20 on Wednesday.

The Knights, who led 18-6 at halftime and 26-8 after three quarters, improved to 2-0.
