Boys Soccer Wins on PKs; Also Lacrosse, Golf, Baseball, Softball

The SJCS Varsity boys soccer team defeated Gray Collegiate Academy 3-2 on penalty kicks Tuesday night in a match between two of the state's top programs.

The visiting Knights, who entered the game ranked No. 1 in Class 1A and No. 17 overall by MaxPreps, improved to 9-1 by beating the War Eagles (11-2), No. 2 in 2A and No. 10 overall.

Davidson Chou (with an assist from Rhys Roberts) and Reid Feldman (assisted by Chou) scored for the Knights in regulation.

Chou, Feldman, Mateo Simon, Connor Flannigan, and Patrick Kucaba converted penalty kicks for St. Joe's.

  • The JV Knights also won, defeating the War Eagles 1-0 on a goal by Charlie Zacher.

Boys Lacrosse

The SJCS Varsity boys lacrosse team rallied but fell short in a 10-9 loss to visiting Blythewood on Monday night.

Brendan Alvis scored five goals for the Knights (5-3). Walker Wolfram had two goals, and Mills McCauley and Jackson Evette each scored once.

Wolfram's second goal gave St. Joe's a 6-4 lead early in the third quarter, but Blythewood scored three straight to move ahead 7-6. Wolfram scored with an assist from Mason Brierton with 20 seconds left in the quarter, and the teams entered the final quarter even.

The Bengals again scored three goals in a row to take a 10-7 lead with 6:22 remaining. Alvis scored with 5:10 left and again with 4:37 to play to pull the Knights within one. They had possession and opportunities in the final minute but were unable to capitalize.

  • Blythewood won the JV game 7-4. For the Knights, Harrison VanPelt had three goals, and Will Harden had one goal.


Girls Lacrosse

The SJCS Varsity girls lacrosse team lost at Mauldin on Monday night, 11-10 in overtime.

Senior Grace Eilers recorded her 99th career goal for the Knights.

Boys Golf

The SJCS boys golf team has come a long way in five weeks -- from 20th out of 22 teams in the Red Raider Tournament to sixth out of 21 teams at Saturday's Tee-Off Classic at the Fort Golf Club in Ninety Six.

The Knights carded a 322, led by Bryce Chapman's 79 in chilly winds and rain. Smith Crick was right behind with an 81, followed by co-captain Dean Remsberg at 83. Luke Bryant and co-captain Evan Conroy rounded out the team scoring with 89 and 90, respectively.


The SJCS Varsity baseball team lost to visiting Powdersville 13-2 in five innings on Monday night.

Johnny Jaraczewski homered for the Knights, a solo shot to left field in the second inning.

  • Matthew Mordas had three hits and knocked in four runs and the JV Knights defeated the visiting Anderson Cavaliers 13-2 in five innings Monday.

Charlie Sanders had two hits and two RBIs for the Knights, and Christian Timko and Dean Dryden each had two hits. 


The SJCS softball team lost at Spartanburg 20-1 in five innings Monday night.

Avery Phillips had two hits for the Knights. Emerson Tate had a double and scored the lone run on a single by Abby Green.
