SJCS Celebrates African American Heritage Mass

SJCS Celebrates African American Heritage Mass

In honor of Black History Month, St. Joseph's Catholic School celebrated its first African American Heritage Mass on Wednesday, February 15.

The guest priest was Father Mwape, the Pastor at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

The St. Anthony's school choir sang, along with some members of the young adult choir, and they brought their band. They sang songs in a traditional African American style. Several students who attend St. Anthony's Church also sang with the choir.

SJCS senior Hailyn Walker did the reading and senior Chris Johnson read the Litany of the Saints. A group of boys from the 6th grade brought up the gifts: Sam Winburn, Noah Simmons, Jah Richards, Moses Zikusooka and Deux Greene.
