SJCS Students Involved in Summer Youth Government

Five St. Joseph's Catholic School students attended Palmetto Girls/Boys State this month: rising seniors Margo Schellinger, Emma Cumby, Colin Slater, Thomas Leong and Josh Lagleva.

Emma was elected to a County Chair position and then appointed to an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court position. Josh was elected as a Representative in the House and is the Head of the Agriculture Committee, and Thomas was elected as County Commissioner. The students ran a mock state government and participated in patriotic activities.

Junior Connor Farrell and graduate Maurena Supra ('22) attended the National YMCA Youth Advocacy Days in Washington, D.C., earlier this month. They attended the National Youth Governors Conference, where Connor worked with Youth Advocates and Maurena worked with the Changemakers' Program. Both met with state representatives and senators to advocate for the YMCA and YIG programs.
