Hall of Fame Induction Provides Special Memories
The St. Joseph's Catholic School gymnasium was transformed into a mall of memories on Saturday, May 21 for the inaugural SJCS Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2022 -- the first full class to be inducted -- consisted of three athletes, one coach and three supporters, all of whom shared their memories, as well as testimony to the rewards of the St. Joseph's experience.
Chris Carino ('04) was presented by his brother, J.D. ('09); Nicole (Coia) Carey ('05) was presented by her father, SJCS boys golf coach Ted Coia; and Alex Burnikel ('11) was presented by Knights boys soccer coach Frank Kucinic.
Former girls cross country and track coach Marie Kernell was presented by Laura Linen, whose daughter Caroline ('21) was a state champion runner under Coach Kernell; Paula and Stan Bikulege were presented by their son, Stanley ('14); and Dave Estes was presented by sons David ('12) and Mark ('16).
"We could not have asked for a class that better represents the concept of the true student-athletes, dedicated coaches and supporters who give tirelessly of themselves to make the St. Joseph’s experience better for those who come after them," SJCS Athletic Director Eric Nash said.
The seven new members join long-time volleyball coach Jan Carino, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame upon her retirement as athletic director in 2015.
A special thanks to Michael Pace, Gary Walajtys, Kelly Gillespie, Mary Salgado and the entire Knights Athletic Booster Club for their financial support and many hours of planning and preparation, without which the Hall of Fame induction ceremony would not have been possible.
It was truly a night of Knights!!
