Swimmers Recognize Seniors; Runners Rule at Southside

The SJCS swim team swept a pair of opponents and honored its seniors on Tuesday night at Spaulding Farm Pool.

The Knights' girls and boys both defeated Southside Christian and Brashier Middle College, and then the team recognized the following 10 seniors: Chloe Bradley, Adie Cassidy, Juliana Guarin, Emily Jason, Colin Jordan, Josh Lagleva, Chloe Rose Lonergan, Elaina Mulholland, Margo Schellinger and Sylvia Walker.

Next, the Knights will compete in the Region 1-1A meet at 12:15 PM Saturday at the Greenville Aquatic Center. The St. Joe's boys have won five consecutive region championships, and the girls have won three straight region titles.

Cross Country

The SJCS Varsity girls and boys cross country teams both placed first in the Tiger Invitational hosted by Southside High School on Saturday.

Nina Brown was the individual champion in the girls race, finishing in 21:11, and Daniela Fernandez (21:53) also received a medal as runner-up.

Chappell Martin won the boys race in 18:30, and Ryan Kane (18:53) also was awarded a medal for placing third.

The JV teams also competed, and the boys finished first and the girls second. Colin Slater was the top finisher for the boys (third in 21:55), and Bijou Laguerre led the girls (seventh in 29:41).

On Tuesday, the Middle School teams ran at the Spartanburg Christian Invitational in Boiling Springs. Will Hand was the top finisher for the St. Joe's boys (31st out of 155 runners in 14:33), and Anna Howard was the top girl for the Knights (10th out of 105 in 15:22).


The SJCS Varsity volleyball team rallied from two sets down and pushed host Southside Christian to a fifth set but lost 3-2 (25-18, 25-15, 13-25, 19-25, 15-9) in a Region 1-1A match Tuesday night.

For the Knights, Emily Normand had 29 kills; Lillie Hecker had 12 kills, 13 digs and two aces; Grace Dumont had 40 assists, eight digs and two aces; and Tiffany Helmer had 17 digs and five assists.

St. Joe's will host Brashier Middle College at 7:00 PM Thursday.

The SJCS Middle School team defeated visiting Southside Christian 2-0 (25-17, 25-14) on Tuesday.

Girls Golf

The SJCS girls golf team lost to Belton-Honea Path 171-212 on Monday at Pine Lake Golf Course in Anderson. Freshman Julia Conroy was low scorer for the Knights.
