Middle School Boys Defeat Langston; Girls Fall Short

The SJCS Middle School boys basketball team held Langston Charter scoreless for more than a quarter Monday and defeated the visiting Chargers 30-20.

Sam Covington scored eight points and Sam Patterson had seven points for the Knights, who led 12-9 late in the first quarter before pulling away.

Will Saunders scored on a drive to give the Knights a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. St. Joe's then outscored Langston 8-0 in the second quarter.

Patterson scored on a drive, Jack Stewart fought for a put-back and Saunders dropped in a runner with 23 seconds remaining in the quarter. Patterson then scored on a drive that beat the buzzer and gave the Knights a 22-9 halftime lead.

Covington scored inside early in the second half to cap a 12-0 run, giving St. Joe's a 24-9 advantage. The Knights ended the third quarter with a 28-11 lead, limiting the Chargers to two points in the second and third quarters combined.

Daniel Leon scored five points for the Knights, Saunders had four and Stewart, Smith Crick and Weston Ward had two points apiece.

Middle School Girls

Langston Charter defeated the SJCS Middle School girls 29-10 on Monday.

Lilie Stravolo scored four points for the Knights, and Lillie Mendelson, Rachel Overton and Bryanna Okuley each scored two points.


**The JV boys and both Varsity teams will play at home today against Brashier Middle College. The JV boys will begin at 5:00 PM, followed by the Varsity girls at 6:30 and the Varsity boys at 8:00.

The 6th Grade teams will play at St. Mary's today, the girls at 4:00 PM and the boys at 5:00.
