6th Grade Boys, Girls Lose Close Ones Against Langston
The SJCS 6th Grade boys basketball team suffered a tough loss Wednesday when visiting Langston Charter rallied in the final minute for a 35-31 victory.
The Knights trailed 28-24 entering the fourth quarter but began the period with a 7-0 run to move in front.
C.J. Sufcynski scored inside, Will Hand made a steal and basket and Abe Anderson converted on a break. Hand added 1 of 2 from the line to make it 29-24.
St. Joe's still led 31-26 when Hand scored on a break with 2:26 remaining.
However, Langston closed with a 9-0 run, including a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left that gave the Chargers a 34-31 lead.
Hand led the Knights with 15 points. Moses Zikusooka scored 10 points, including eight in the second quarter when the Knights pulled to within 16-14 by halftime.
Sufcynski, Anderson and Zander Estevez each had two points.
6th Grade Girls
The 6th Grade girls also took Langston into the fourth quarter, but the Chargers went on to a 24-18 victory.
Langston began to spread the gap near the end of the third quarter. Cecily Busby hit a short bank shot from the left wing to pull the Knights to within 20-17, but that was as close as they could get.
Liza May Perry scored seven points for the Knights. Olivia Silkworth had five points, and Annabel Burress had four points.
**The JV boys and both Varsity teams will play at home tonight against Southside Christian. The JV boys will begin at 4:30 PM, followed by the Varsity girls at 6:00 and the Varsity boys at 7:30.
