SJCS swim team sweeps CCES, falls to Eastside in tri-meet
In a swim meet that featured state championship teams and individuals, St. Joseph's, Eastside and Christ Church competed at Greenville Country Club on Monday night.
In the boys competition, St. Joe's, which has won four consecutive Class 3A state titles, defeated Christ Church and lost against Eastside, which has won six straight championships (one in 3A and the last five 4A titles).
On the girls side, the Knights, Class 3A runners-up each of the last two years, beat Christ Church (third a year ago) and lost to four-time defending 4A champion Eastside.
For the SJCS girls, Mary Kate Farrell won the 200- (2:13.13) and 400-meter (4:43.64) freestyle events, and Emily Jason won the 200 individual medley (2:35.84) and the 100 breaststroke (1:20.57).
Farrell, Jason, Helen Norton and Sylvia Walker teamed to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:53.84).
The girls also had top-three finishes from Walker (second in the 50 free), Norton (third in the 100 free) and Riley Reed (third in the 200 free).
For the boys, Colin Jordan took first in the 200 free (2:09.92). He also finished third in the 100 free, as did Owen Byrd in the 200 IM.
