Knights Top Sabres, Take on Christ Church in State Final
The SJCS girls soccer team is one victory away from repeating as Class 2A state champion.
The Knights reached their second straight state final with a 6-0 victory over Southside Christian in the state semifinal round of the playoffs on Tuesday night.
St. Joe's, the No. 1 seed on one side of the bracket, will play another rival, Christ Church, the top seed on the other half of the bracket, for the state championship at noon Saturday at Irmo High School.
It will be the Knights' third appearance in the final since joining the Southside Carolina High School League. They were runners-up in 2017. St. Joe's also won SCISA championships in 2004 and 2005.
Christ Church won state championships in 2001 and 2012 and has been runner-up 10 times.
Last year, St. Joe's defeated Southside Christian in the state final, 3-0.
This year, the Knights played the Sabres in the semifinal and led 4-0 at halftime before completing a 6-0 victory -- their ninth consecutive shutout.
Bailey Manfredi and Caroline Getz each scored two goals, and Clare McKinley and Caroline Howard each added a goal for the Knights.
