Girls Soccer Posts Another Shutout, Seeks Return to State
The SJCS girls soccer team will be seeking a return to the state final when it hosts Southside Christian in the Class 2A state semifinals at 7:00 PM Tuesday.
The Knights, the top seed and the defending state champions, defeated the Sabres earlier this season, 4-0. St. Joe's also beat Southside Christian, which is seeded second, 3-0 in last year's state final.
The winner will play the winner of the other semifinal, Philip Simmons at Christ Church, in the state final at noon Saturday at Irmo High School.
The Knights advanced to the semifinals with an 11-0 victory over No. 8 Wade Hampton in the third round Saturday.
Ellie Peterman, Bailey Manfredi, Clare McKinley and Caroline Getz each scored two goals, and Jenna Zuchowski, Lily VanPelt and Bryn Bissinger each scored a goal for the Knights.
The Knights have won both of their playoffs games 11-0, having beaten Governor's School by the same score in the second round.
The win against Wade Hampton was the Knights' eighth consecutive shutout.
The SJCS boys soccer team lost on the road against No. 2 Andrew Jackson, 2-1, in the third round of the playoffs Saturday night.
It marked the end of an outstanding season for the Knights, who won another Region 2-2A championship, going 8-0 against region opponents before earning a No. 3 seed and reaching the third round.
