Varsity Basketball

The SJCS Varsity boys basketball team began the post-finals portion of its schedule by winning two of three games, losing at Southside Christian before winning home games against Greenville Home School and Providence Day.

The Varsity girls beat Southside Christian, lost to Greenville Home School and then fought for a 43-38 win over Providence Day. Tiffany Helmer dropped in six 3-pointers and scored 20 points for the Knights, and Jamison White made two clutch free throws to seal the victory.

Then both the boys and girls traveled to Atlanta for the St. Pius X Christmas Classic, billed as the "premier Catholic high school basketball tournament in the nation." The event featured 16 teams from seven states.

Though both teams went 0-3 in the tournament, they gained valuable experience against top-shelf opponents with Division I talent.

JV Girls Basketball

The SJCS Junior Varsity girls battled Providence Home School through four quarters and overtime Dec. 21 but lost 29-25.

Caroline Feldman hit three 3-pointers and led the Knights with nine points. Caroline Mruz and Stella Nash scored six points each, and Elizabeth Armaly and Avery Phillips had two points apiece.

On Wednesday (Jan. 5), the SJCS Middle School basketball teams will host Langston Charter, with the girls tipping off at 4:00 PM and the boys at 5:15. Then the JV girls will host Shannon Forest at 6:30.
