Senior Football Players Enjoy Trip to Pittsburgh

The rising seniors on the SJCS football team recently enjoyed a memorable trip to Pittsburgh under the direction of Head Coach Eric Nash.

The group arrived after a 10-hour drive on Tuesday, July 7 and had dinner at Primanti Bros., a Pittsburgh institution.

On Wednesday, the players and coaches visited Duquesne University and toured the school and football facilities with a couple of its coaches. Then they toured Acrisure Stadium -- where they were able to go on to the field and into the Pitt and Steelers locker rooms -- and the Steelers Hall of Honor Museum. They capped the day by attending the Braves-Pirates game at PNC Park.

On Thursday, the group toured Carnegie Mellon University. A couple of the CMU coaches took them around the school and its athletic facilities, and they got to see the plaque of SJCS graduate Luke Bikulege (2017) on the Academic All-American Wall.

Then they went to Old St. Patrick's Church in the Strip District, one of only three churches in the country to house a replica of the Holy Stairs ("Scala Sancta") in the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran in Rome.

"We crawled the stairs, as is tradition," Coach Nash said. "There is a prayer to say on each step thanking Jesus for His sacrifices during His Passion. It was an awesome experience!"

After some free time, they all feasted at Fogo De Chao, a Brazilian steakhouse, before finishing the night with a rousing 18 holes at the Puttshack.

On Friday, they made the 10-hour drive back to Greenville.

"It was an awesome trip with great boys and a wonderful experience for all," Coach Nash said. "It was really a great opportunity to interact with the seniors outside of football. I think we all got to know each other better. I think this is an experience they'll still be talking about 30 years from now."

The Knights begin their third season under Coach Nash at Blue Ridge on August 21.Click HERE for complete schedule and other fall athletic events.
