This week, St. Joseph's Catholic School is hosting Matthew 25 Project, an annual summer service camp organized by the Catholic Diocese of Charleston.
The camp is rooted in Matthew 25:35–40 -- "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me" -- and invites young people to recognize Christ in the vulnerable and serve those in need.
The camp begins Sunday afternoon and ends midday on Friday and is open to rising 9th- through 12th-graders. Eighty high school students from around the state -- including 15 from St. Joe's -- are staying on campus overnight and then spending the day in the community serving groups in need.
The camp is being led by an excellent team of college interns -- including Sylvia Kucinic ('23) -- under the direction of the Youth Ministry office of the Diocese of Charleston. In addition, Christian Frank ('22) is volunteering all week as a group leader.
This initiative provides young people with a transformative experience that fosters spiritual growth, social responsibility and a deeper commitment to serving others. By encountering Christ in those they serve, teens are formed as compassionate leaders who carry these experiences back to their parishes and communities.
