Wrestlers Earn Victory at Region 2-3A Duals

The SJCS wrestling team competed in the Region 2-3A Duals at Powdersville High School on Wednesday and ended a long drought for the program.

The Knights began the evening with an 83-0 loss against Palmetto. However, they followed that with a 24-18 win over Christ Church.

It marked the first victory for St. Joe's in wrestling in more than three years, dating back to a win over Carolina High on November 30, 2022 -- the season-opening match in a tri-meet at Mauldin High School.

The Knights did not win again that season or the following season, and St. Joe's did not have a wrestling team this past year.

The team has been revived this year under the leadership of Coach Lucas Peterson, and now the Knights have a victory upon which they can build.

Against Christ Church, Luke Jones was the only Knight who had a match, and -- despite breaking a finger during the match -- he registered a third-period pin at 138 pounds. Kolbe Hanson, Baylor Jennings and Ren Scoville all won by forfeit.

The Knights ended the duals with losses against Powdersville and Carolina High. In the latter, a 36-6 defeat, Jennings won by forfeit at 132.
