Varsity, JV, Middle School Teams Sweep Opponents

The SJCS Varsity boys basketball team used a 13-0, second-half run to pull away and defeat visiting Palmetto 56-38  in a Region 2-3A game on Tuesday night.

Jack Stewart provided a spark for the Knights (13-2, 3-1) late in the first half, coming off the bench to help turn a two-point advantage into a 34-25 lead in the third quarter.

After Palmetto closed to within 36-30, Caleb Hood nailed a 3-pointer and Sam Patterson made a steal that led to Deux Greene's layup and gave the Knights a 41-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

St. Joe's then scored the first eight points of the fourth period. Hood scored inside; Greene scored on a drive; Patterson grabbed an offensive rebound and scored in the lane; and Greene dropped in a runner, completing a 13-0 spurt and putting the Knights on top 49-30 with 4:22 remaining.

Greene finished with 14 points and Hood with 11 points. Carter Bears had 10 points, and Stewart had eight points. Carl Harrison had six points, Smith Crick three points and Patterson and Will Saunders two points apiece.

Varsity Girls

The Varsity girls struck for a season-high in points and cruised to an 80-20 victory over Palmetto in a Region 2-3A game on Tuesday night.

Evie Adams scored 22 points, and Tiffany Helmer added 18 points for the Knights (11-6, 4-0), who led 51-14 at halftime. Eliza Carter contributed 10 points.

Emi Reese Hand, Stella Nash and Lola Kelly each had six points, Macy Caldwell had five points, Londyn Woods had four points and Gianna Franchina had three points.

Junior Varsity Boys

Caden Field scored nine points and the JV boys beat host First Presbyterian Academy 26-23 on Tuesday night.

Deniym Wilkins had five points, Miles Norman four points and Grant Brasington, Julian Cordi and Zander Estevez two points apiece.

Junior Varsity Girls

Caroline Burress scored six points, Annabel Burress pitched in five points and the JV girls fought for a 19-14 win over First Presbyterian Academy.

Mia Lanza had four points, and Campbell McCart and Kate Marchant each had two points.

Middle School Boys

Carter Lindsay had 11 points, one of 10 players who scored for the Middle School Knights in their 48-39 victory at Mitchell Road Academy.

George Covington had eight points, Teigan Styles seven points, John Martin Adams six points and Rylan Murray and Fisher Marosek four points apiece. Jack Copeland, Levi Norris, Hampton Uzas and Daniel Moody each scored two points.

Middle School Girls

Mary Bradford Brown poured in 20 points, and the Middle School girls team beat Mitchell Road 41-22.

Logan Hand and Elizabeth McCall Suggs each scored seven points, Nora Nash had four points and Katy Gernon had three points.
