Varsity, JV Basketball Teams Sweep Devildogs

The Varsity and Junior Varsity girls and boys basketball teams were victorious against Travelers Rest on Monday night, with the Varsity teams both winning at TR and the JV teams both winning their season openers at home.

Varsity Girls

Tiffany Helmer scored 19 points, Evie Adams added 17 and the Varsity girls beat the Devildogs for heir first win of the season.

Helmer had 11 points and Adams had nine in the first quarter, as the Knights (1-2) sprinted out to a 25-6 advantage. They led 40-16 by halftime.

Eva Cifuni and Eliza Carter each had five points, Emi Reese Hand and Gianna Franchina each had three points and Kaia Jacoby and Stella Nash each had two points.

Helmer had five steals, and Adams and Cifuni had four steals apiece. The Knights had 22 steals in all and forced 34 turnovers.

Varsity Boys

The Knights erased a halftime deficit with a big third quarter and went on to a 46-33 victory.

Carter Bears scored 18 points and Deux Greene pitched in 15 for the Knights (3-0), who trailed 25-22 after two quarters. Greene then scored seven points in the third quarter to help St. Joe's outscore TR 11-0 to take a 33-25 lead.

The Knights, who made one free throw in the first three quarters, made 7 of 12 from the line in the fourth and maintained the lead.

Smith Crick had seven points, Carl Harrison had five points and Caleb Hood had one point.

Junior Varsity Girls

Lili Franek scored 13 points and the JV girls limited the Devildogs to one basket in a 48-2 win.

Campbell McCart had nine points, Caroline Burress had eight points and Kate Marchant had seven points for the Knights, who led 34-0 with 4:34 left in the third quarter when TR finally scored.

Zoe Theodore had four points, Annabel Burress had three points and Caroline Doar and Mia Lanza each had two points.

Junior Varsity Boys

The JV boys broke the game open in the third quarter and cruised to a 44-22 victory.

The Knights, who led 21-13 at halftime, quickly extended the lead when Deniym Wilkins nailed a 3-pointer and Barrett Barnhill scored on a break.

After TR hit a 3-pointer, Wilkins buried another three, Noah Ball hit 1 of 2 from the line and Julian Cordi made a pair of free throws to cap an 11-3 St. Joe's run that made it 32-16.
