Run Ends for Boys Tennis; Softball Loses Opener

The boys tennis team's run to state came up one step short.

The sixth-seeded Knights lost on the road against No. 4 Clinton 4-2 on Wednesday in the Class 3A Upper State championship match.

Clinton, which beat St. Joe's in the second round the previous year, repeated as Upper State champion. The Red Devils were state runners-up a year ago.

The Knights finished second in Region 2 and won three playoff matches before bowing out.

"It was competitive, and we came to play," SJCS Coach Ken Arp said. "Winning isn't everything, but trying to win is everything. That is exactly what we did at this match and all year."

Alexander Millener won at No. 5 singles for the Knights and Brodie Miller and Byron Webb at No. 2 doubles.

  • Hampton Norwood and Whit Wilkins will compete in the Class 3A/2A/1A individual tournament Monday at the Lexington County Tennis Complex.
