Roundup: Track, Softball, Golf, Baseball, Lacrosse

The SJCS Varsity track and field team competed in a meet at Southside Christian School on Wednesday.

Eva Cifuni won both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. Bea Hamilton was runner-up in both events, and Corinne Okuley was third in the 800, giving the Knights a 1-2-3 finish in that event. Francie Thompson came in fifth in the 400.

Among the boys, the Knights' team of Burke Moorman, Jonathan Kissel, Carter Dausen and Nicholas Giraldo won the 4x800 relay.

Sam Patterson took third and second, respectively, in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Kissel came in fourth in the 800, and Elliott Thompson was fifth in the 400.

In the field events, Mack Rambo was third in the shot put, and Nick Passerrello placed fourth in the shot and fifth in the discus.

Boys Golf

The Knights won their third straight match against Palmetto, defeating the Mustangs 172-186 on Wednesday at The Preserve at Verdae Golf Club.

Cael Roberts had the team's low score of 40 on a cold day at The Preserve, and he was joined by Bryce Chapman (42), Clyde Williams (45) and Liam Davis (45) in the winning effort.

The St. Joe's JV players also prevailed, as Gus McLean (57) and James Glenn (58) each posted lower scores than Palmetto's lone competitor.

Up next is The Tee-Off Classic on Saturday at The Fort Club in Ninety Six. The team of Chapman, Roberts, Williams, Mo Laubsch and Hudson Wolfram hope to improve on last year's finish (11th place out of 20 teams).

Softball

Southside Christian defeated the host Knights 15-1 in four innings in a Region 2-3A game on Wednesday.

Nora Nash had two hits for the Knights (5-2), and Stella Nash, Addie Murphy and Addi Gregory each had one hit.

Stella Nash tripled and Murphy singled to produce the only run for the Knights.

Softball vs SCS


Baseball

The visiting Greenville Hurricanes defeated the Varsity Knights 13-3 in a non-region game on Wednesday night.

Sam Utecht and Christian Timko had the only hits for the Knights (5-3), and Utecht and Nolan Green each knocked in a run.

  • The Hurricanes beat the JV Knights 20-9 in four innings on Wednesday. Miles Parrick went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Beau Barnhill had a hit, scored twice and drove in a run, and Troy Herbert knocked in two runs.

Girls Lacrosse

The Varsity Knights (3-4) lost on the road against Christ Church, 14-3 on Wednesday night. The JV Knights also lost, 10-2.

Boys Lacrosse

Christ Church beat the host Knights (0-7) in the Varsity game, 21-1. The JV Knights lost a hard-fought game against the Cavaliers, 4-2.
