Roundup: Middle School Knights Advance to Final

St. Joseph's defeated Langston 4-1 in the semifinals of the Carolina Middle School Conference baseball tournament Monday at Sunset Park in Mauldin.

The Knights will play at Christ Church against the Cavaliers in the CMSC championship game next Monday, May 4 at 4:30 PM.

Against Langston, the Knights fell behind 1-0 in the second inning and then scored all of their runs in the top of the fourth.

Levi Norris led off the inning with a single, moved to third on a double by Carter Reinstein and scored on a single by Jack Copeland.

After Ivan Turrell walked to load the bases, Austin Rogers hit into a fielder's choice that scored both Reinstein and Copeland. 

Turrell and Rogers pulled off a double steal, taking third and second, respectively, and Cohen Okuley's groundout scored Turrell to make it 4-1.

Norris went the first 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits. James Barker came on to get the final five outs. He faced just four batters, getting a double play to end the fifth before retiring the side in the sixth.

Varsity Baseball

Josh Lyons went 2 for 2 with a grand slam and three runs scored to lead the SJCS Varsity to a 14-4 victory over visiting Mountain View Prep in a non-region game on Monday night.

Christian Timko and Lucas Thompson each had three RBIs for the Knights (14-6). Barrett Barnhill knocked in two runs, and John Eberstein had two hits and drove in a run.

Thompson pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits. Of the 10 outs he recorded, eight came on strikeouts. Alex Gibeau pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, blanking the Stars on no hits.

The Knights will play on the road against MVP in their final regular-season game at 7:45 PM Friday.

JV Baseball

The JV Knights lost to visiting Mountain View Prep 12-1. The Knights scored their run in the first inning. After walks to Hugh Clements, Guy Henry and Miles Parrick, Warren Bach hit a sacrifice fly to score Clements.

Boys Golf

The Varsity Knights (9-4) defeated Southside Christian 161-184 at The Preserve at Verdae in their final match of the season. Cael Roberts once again captured medalist honors with a 2-over-par 38. Roberts was joined by playing partner Clyde Williams (39), Bryce Chapman (40) and Liam Davis (44) in securing the win.

The JV Knights also prevailed, 88-109. James Glenn was medalist with a personal-best 43 over the front nine. Gus McLean also contributed a personal-best 45 as the squad peaked in the last match up of the season.

Next, the Varsity will compete in the Region 2-3A tournament on Friday at Saluda Valley Country Club in Williamston.
