Roundup: Golf, Tennis, Softball, Soccer, Lacrosse

The SJCS golf team notched a pair of victories Monday, with its 2-over-par 146 -- the Knights' best score in eight years -- resulting in wins over Brashier Middle College (178) and Palmetto (200) at Saluda Valley Country Club in Williamston.

Cael Roberts led the Knights with a 1-under-par 35 to capture medalist honors. A trio of Knights -- Hudson Wolfram, Bryce Chapman and George Covington -- posted 37s, matching last week's performance at The WildeWood Club in Columbia. Clyde Williams and Max McGregor carded rounds of 38 and 41, respectively.  

Boys Tennis

The Varsity boys tennis team played at Greenville High on Monday and lost 7-0 in a non-region match.

The Knights will try to bounce back today when they host Region 2-3A opponent Southside Christian.

  • The JV Knights lost at home against Greenville High, 6-1. Wesley Lair and Sean Vining won at No. 2 doubles for the Knights.

Varsity Softball

The Asheville Trailblazers scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on to beat St. Joe's 5-3 on Monday.

In the bottom of the sixth, Addie Murphy walked, Eva Carraturo was hit by a pitch, and both came around to score on Asheville errors, tying the score at 3-3.

The Knights scored their first run in the fourth. With two outs, Murphy walked and scored on a double by Carraturo.

Murphy went the distance on the mound, allowing five runs (two earned), while striking out 11 and walking only one.

Boys Soccer

The Varsity boys blanked visiting Greer Middle College 5-0 in a non-region match on Monday night.

The Knights (9-3, 4-2) will be back in action after the break, playing at region foe Powdersville on Monday, April 13.

The JV Knights also pitched a shutout, winning 7-0.

Girls Lacrosse

Kristen Nelson scored six goals, Julia Su made 20 saves and the Varsity girls lacrosse team defeated visiting Hillcrest 13-12 on Friday night.

Elasayd Okuley had three goals for the Knights (3-5). Anna Page Sparkman had two goals, and Liza Mary Perry and Molly Monroe each had one.

Perry and Monroe each had three assists, and Sparkman had two assists. Nelson and Perry each recovered four ground balls, and Reese Rosenfeld picked up three.
