Roundup: Tennis, Softball, Girls Lacrosse, Baseball

Quinn Walsh and Nolan Green combined to limit Palmetto to three hits, and the SJCS Varsity edged the host Mustangs 4-3 in a Region 2-3A baseball game Tuesday night.

Walsh went the first 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out eight. Green came on to get the last five outs and blanked the Mustangs on two hits, striking out four.

Jackson Campbell had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in a run for the Knights (7-3, 2-1).

In the top of the first inning, after Campbell singled and Walsh reached on an error, Alex Gibeau's two-out single scored both runners to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.

Palmetto cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first, but the Knights added two more runs in the fifth.

Christian Timko singled, stole second and scored on a single by Campbell. Josh Lyons doubled, moving Campbell to third, and Campbell scored on Walsh's grounder to second, making it 4-1.

Middle School Baseball

James Barker threw four scoreless innings of relief and the Middle School Knights defeated visiting Liberty 7-6 on Tuesday.

Liberty scored four runs in the first two innings, but Barker blanked the Red Devils and did not allow a hit from the third through the sixth.

Meanwhile, the Knights, who had trailed 4-2, mounted a comeback. They took advantage of seven walks, two hit batsmen and four Liberty errors.

Austin Rogers and Hampton Uzas had two hits apiece, and Rogers had two RBIs. Uzas and Levi Norris each drove in a run.

Softball

The Knights lost on the road against the Greenville Hurricanes, 8-1.

Jackie Garrett, Stella Nash, Addie Murphy and Nora Nash each had a hit for the Knights (5-5), and Murphy drove in the only run.

Varsity Boys Tennis

The Varsity boys lost at home against Christ Church, leaving the Knights with a split in their region matches against the Cavaliers.

Whit Wilkins won at No. 1 singles for the Knights, and Hampton Norwood was victorious in a tie-breaker at No. 3.

JV Boys Tennis

The JV Knights came up short against the host Cavaliers in a close match that saw four of the seven lines end in tie-breakers.

Julian Stewart and Henry Russell won in tie-breakers at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, and Davi Millener and Connor Campbell won in a tie-breaker at No. 1 doubles.

Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Varsity girls lacrosse team lost to visiting Byrnes 22-2 on Tuesday night.

Sonia Julio Untener and Anna Page Sparkman each scored a goal for the Knights, and Liza May Perry contributed an assist. Perry, Alejandra Meneses, Gabby Banan and Molly Monroe each had a ground ball.

In last week's 14-3 loss at Christ Church, Perry scored two goals and Meneses scored one goal. Perry also had an assist. Julio Untener and Mollie Mendelson each recorded a ground ball.

  • The JV Knights defeated Byrnes 6-5.
