Playoff Update: Baseball, Boys Soccer Play Tonight

Elin Johnson had two goals and two assists and the SJCS girls soccer team defeated Walhalla 7-0 in a Class 3A second-round playoff match on Friday night.

Sydney Reyes, Lula Johnson, Taylor Hargett, Ava Wright and Brynna Okuley also scored for the sixth-seeded Knights, who knocked off Region 1 champion Walhalla, the No. 3 seed in the Upper State.

Hargett, Reyes, Lula Johnson and Anna Stewart also recorded assists.

CLASS 3A GIRLS SOCCER BRACKET

The Knights (11-4) advance to play No. 2 Greer Middle College (18-3) in the third round at 6:00 PM Tuesday at North Greenville University. The teams met early this season at St. Joe's, and the Knights won 5-4 on penalty kicks.

Boys Soccer

The boys soccer team (12-7), seeded seventh in the Upper State will play on the road against No. 6 Christ Church tonight at 6:00. The Cavaliers (17-3-1), seeded sixth, finished second in Region 2 and the Knights were third.

The Knights lost both region games against the Cavs, 3-1 at home and 4-0 at Christ Church.

Baseball

Nolan Green fired a two-hit shutout to lead the SJCS baseball team to a 1-0 victory over host Palmetto in a Class 3A playoff elimination game on Saturday afternoon.

The superb performance by Green, a senior right-hander, followed a two-hit shutout by Quinn Walsh in a 4-0 win at Crescent. Green struck out four and walked one.

The Knights scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning when John Campbell hit into a fielder's choice that drove in Alex Gibeau, who had singled.

CLASS 3A BASEBALL BRACKET

Tonight, the Knights (16-8), seeded sixth, will try to reach the Upper State's final four. They will play on the road against No. 11 Woodruff, having to beat the Wolverines twice in the double-elimination format. The first game is scheduled for 5:00 PM.

GAME INFO: The Woodruff baseball field is located at Woodruff Middle School (205 SJ Workman Highway). Fans can park above the school in the parking lot; in the bus circle; or in the two parking lots on the side and in front of the school. Only a limited number of handicapped spots are available in the bus circle by the baseball field. We have limited bleacher seating, so you are welcome to bring a chair.

Tickets can be bought online through the hometown fan app or for cash only at the gate. Admission is $8.00, and the gates open one hour before first pitch.

Boys Golf

The boys golf team is competing in the Class 3A state championships today and Tuesday at Diamondback Golf Club in Loris.

Boys Tennis

Senior Hampton Norwood and junior Whit Wilkins are compete in the Class 3A/2A/1A individual tournament today at the Lexington County Tennis Complex.

Softball

The Knights' season ended with a loss to visiting Chapman in an elimination game Friday, 24-0 in five innings. Jackie Garrett, Nora Nash and Sloan Greer each had a hit for the Knights.
