Knights Lose Two; Tiffany Helmer Sets Scoring Mark

The SJCS Varsity girls basketball team lost two games in a season-opening tournament, but senior Tiffany Helmer became the program's career scoring leader.

Helmer scored 25 points in the Knights' 54-41 loss to Northwood Academy on Friday in the first game of the She Got Next Tournament hosted by Lexington High School.

She nailed a 3-pointer -- one of her five in the game -- late in the first quarter to surpass the previous St. Joe's Varsity girls career scoring record of 1,285 points set by Maeve McNamara ('17).

Helmer had 16 points in the first quarter to lift the Knights to an 18-13 lead. However, they scored only 23 points the rest of the way. Northwood (7-0), a SCISA Class 4A power in Summerville, led 31-25 by halftime and gradually pulled away.

Stella Nash had four points and five rebounds, and Evie Adams had three points, six rebounds and six assists. Eva Cifuni and Eliza Carter each had three points, Emi Reese Hand two points and Londyn Woods one point.

On Saturday, Adams poured in 27 points, but the Knights dropped a 67-54 decision against 5A Riverside.

Helmer had 12 points (finishing the weekend with 1,309 career points) for the Knights, who trailed 33-27 at halftime.

Hand had five points, Nash had four points and Kaia Jacoby and Gianna Franchina each had three points. Jacoby also had four rebounds.
