JV Girls Defeat CCES; Middle School Boys Roll

The SJCS Junior Varsity girls poured it on in the second half and defeated visiting Christ Church 39-20 on Thursday night.

Lili Franek scored 18 points for the Knights, who led 12-10 at halftime and then outscored the Cavaliers 27-10 in the last two quarters.

Christ Church was within 19-15 late in the third quarter when Franek made a steal and a layup. Then Caroline Doar scored inside just before the buzzer.

Mia Lanza hit a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter to give the Knights a 26-15 advantage.

After the Cavs pulled to within 28-20, Caroline Burress nailed a pair of 3-pointers to make it 34-20 with 1:45 remaining.

Caroline Burress finished with nine points. Lanza had six points, and Doar, Campbell McCart and Annabel Burress each had two points.

Junior Varsity Boys

Christ Church overcame a halftime deficit and pulled away late for a 36-28 win.

Jay Sanders scored 16 points, including all 13 of the Knights' points in the second half.

Sanders scored on a drive with 3:52 remaining to close the gap to 32-28, but the Cavaliers -- who trailed 15-12 at halftime -- scored the final four points to clinch the win.

Deniym Wilkins had six points, and Noah Ball and Zander Estevez had three points each for the Knights.

Middle School Boys

The SJCS Middle School boys basketball team opened its season with an impressive 44-10 win over host Oakbrook Prep on Thursday.

Carter Reinstein had 13 points to lead a parade of Knights -- 11 in all -- in the scoring column.

Rawlings Francis had five points, and Andrew Copeland, Cohen Okuley, Jack Remsberg and Andrew Royal each had four points.

Connor O'Toole, Isaac Baker, Ford Norris and Charles Theodore had two points apiece, and Ben Powell had one point.
