Girls Relay Team Wins 3A State Championship

The SJCS girls 4x800-meter relay team won the state championship during Friday's Class 3A state track and field meet at Spring Valley High School in Columbia.

The Knights' team of Bea Hamilton, Odette Brown, Sutton Alexander and Eva Cifuni finished first with a time of 9:37.59.

Cifuni also placed second in the 1,600-meter run (5:03.57) and third in the 3,200 (11:20.34). In the 800, Brown was runner-up (2:18.12), Alexander finished sixth (2:23.21) and Hamilton came in eighth (2:24.43).

Among the boys, Sam Patterson placed fifth in the 200 (22.42) and eighth in the 100 (11.06), and Patterson, Mack Rambo, Eliot Power and Timothy Power teamed to take eighth in the 4x100 relay (44.27).

Class 3A All-State Team

Senior Bea Hamilton, sophomore Odette Brown, freshman Sutton Alexander and 8th-grader Eva Cifuni made the South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Class 3A All-State Team.

All four made the team in the 4x800 relay by finishing in the top three in the event, as did Eva in the 1,600 and the 3,200 and Odette in the 800.

Sutton and Bea made the team in the 800 by meeting the classification standard.
