Swimming

The SJCS swim team finished a stellar third in the highly competitive Upstate Invitational at the Fort Mill Aquatic Center on Saturday.

The meet involved eight Class 5A teams, three from 4A and 3A St. Joe's.

"We had some fantastic swims at the Upstate Invite," Knights Coach Becky Van Evera said. "My favorite comment was hearing parents, swimmers and coaches alike say, "Where the heck is St. Joseph's Catholic School?' To say our team made some 5A teams sit up and take notice would be an understatement.

"This meet has great competition, which is why we loved it years ago and I am happy we returned to it this year. The swimmers see competition that is not the same swimmers in Greenville County over and over again.  It pushes them to swim faster. I told Coach Karen (Miros), when you see glimpses of greatness at the midpoint of the season, the excitement for the end of the season begins to build."

The Knights had numerous outstanding finishes, including two first places by Odette Brown (200- and 100-yard freestyle events) and one by Walker Simpson (100 butterfly).
