Boys Lacrosse Falls in OT on Senior Night; JV Wins; Also Tennis, Softball

Before Tuesday night's season finale against Hillcrest, the SJCS Varsity boys lacrosse team honored its three seniors: Syler Chumley, Liam Flaherty and Hays McCart.

Then those three and the rest of the Knights battled the visiting Rams through regulation and into overtime before enduring a heartbreaking 7-6 defeat.

SJCS Coach Ryan Handshoe said he was proud of his Knights, who ended the season at 0-12 but fought to the end, overcoming deficits of 3-1 and 6-3 to force the overtime.

"It was an absolutely brutal way to lose," Coach Handshoe said. "But those young men did not go gentle into the night, and that is all we ask of them as a staff."

Joe Baldassarra had four goals to lead the attack, and Joseph Russell had two goals and three assists.

The seniors all made big contributions: Flaherty had five ground balls and three caused turnovers; Chumley had eight ground balls and two caused turnovers; and McCart had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Miles Norman had eight ground balls and an assist. Mayson Ludolph went 75 percent on faceoffs with three ground balls and an assist, and Ren Scoville went 58 percent on faceoffs with five ground balls.

Goalie Joe Ramsey surpassed the 200 mark in saves for the season, ending with 208.
