Baseball Comeback Falls Short on Senior Night

Baseball Comeback Falls Short on Senior Night

The SJCS Varsity baseball team was hoping to complete a memorable comeback, but Powdersville spoiled the occasion.

The visiting Patriots scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and defeated the Knights 13-11 in a Region 2-3A game Tuesday night.

Before the game, the Knights honored their seven seniors: Jackson Campbell, John Eberstein, Nolan Green, Paul Norman, Frank Remsberg, Charlie Sanders and Sam Utecht.

After Powdersville took a 1-0 lead in the second, Utecht and John Campbell gave the Knights a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning with two-out, run-scoring singles.

St. Joe's led 3-1 heading to the fourth, but the Patriots struck for eight runs. They added two in the sixth and coasted into the bottom of the sixth with an 11-4 advantage.

However, the Knights, with just three hits, scored seven runs in their half of the sixth. John Campbell had a single. Quinn Walsh had a two-run single. Green had a run-scoring double to cap the comeback and tie the score at 11-11.

The Knights also took advantage of two walks, two hit batsmen and three Powdersville errors.

But soon after the Knights (12-6, 6-3) pulled even, the Patriots scored two in the top of the seventh to take the lead for good.

Walsh and Eberstein each drove in three runs. Utecht, Jackson Campbell and Christian Timko each scored two runs. Walsh and John Campbell each had two hits.
