Varsity, JV Baseball Blank Carolina; Softball Loses
The SJCS Varsity baseball team defeated visiting Carolina 15-0 in three innings in its Region 2-3A opener on Tuesday night.
Quinn Walsh had two hits and two RBIs, including a solo, inside-the-park home run. Nolan Green had two hits and three RBIs, Sam Utecht had two hits and scored three runs and Henry Dryden had two hits, knocked in a run and scored twice.
JP Rambo pitched a three-inning no-hitter, struck out six and didn't walk anybody.
Junior Varsity Baseball
The JV Knights also cruised past Carolina, winning 32-0 in three innings.
Josh Lyons had two hits, four RBIs and scored three runs, and Colin Flynn and Hugh Clements each had a hit and knocked in four runs.
Alex Gibeau, Marshall Bears, Dean Dryden and Warren Bach each had two RBIs. Miles Parrick had two hits, and Parrick, Clements and Brayden Royal each scored four runs.
Gibeau (two) and Parrick (one) threw three hitless innings; Gibeau struck out four, and Parrick struck out the side in the third.
Softball
Southside Christian scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and defeated the visiting Knights 5-3 on Tuesday in a Region 2-3A game.
Abby Green had three hits and Emerson Tate had two hits for the Knights. Sydney Slater, Eva Carraturo and Reese Martin each drove in a run.
Addie Murphy went the distance on the mound, allowing five runs -- one earned -- in six innings, while striking out nine and walking three.
