SJCS Students Shine at Junior Thespian Festival

Eleven Middle School students represented SJCS by participating in the South Carolina Junior Thespian Festival at Pinewood Prep in Summerville on Saturday, May 3, celebrating educational theatre with other middle schools throughout the state.

In addition to competing in adjudication rounds for the International Thespian Excellence Awards, the students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of workshops led by Theatre industry professionals, including puppetry, accents, stage combat and improvisation.

Several of the students presented Individual Events as part of the International Thespian Excellence Awards: 

• In Solo Musical Theatre, Ainsley Culbertson, Sophia Oehler and Bristol Wannamacher each received an Excellent for their performances.

• In Solo Acting, Leland Marshall received an Excellent.

• Ainsley Culbertson and Bristol Wannemacher received an Excellent for their Duet Musical Theatre performance.

• Avelina Cornell, Presley Dunlap and Sophia Oehler received an Excellent in Group Acting.

• Finally, in Duet Acting, Bear Jones and Xander Shea received a Superior for their performance and were recognized in the Awards Assembly.
