Roundup: Varsity Baseball Gets Jump on Palmetto

Jackson Campbell had three hits -- including a three-run homer -- and knocked in four runs to lead the SJCS Varsity baseball team to an 11-7 win over Palmetto on Friday night at Lasorda Family Field.

Campbell's three-run blast came during a four-run third inning that gave the Knights a 10-0 lead.

Henry Dryden also had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs. Christian Timko had two hits and scored twice, and JP Rambo drove in two runs.

Winning pitcher Liam Okuley went the first six innings, allowing six runs on four hits, while striking out seven and walking four. Cade Alt struck out the side in a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

The Knights improved to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in Region 2-3A.

Soccer

The Varsity boys soccer team (8-1) lost its first game of the season on Friday, losing on the road against Marist, 3-0. Marist (10-0) is No. 2 in Georgia's Class 4A according to MaxPrep rankings.

  • The Varsity girls (8-2) also lost to Marist, 9-0. The Marist girls (13-3) are No. 5 in 4A.

Lacrosse

The SJCS Varsity girls lacrosse team defeated host Mid-Carolina 11-10 to register its third victory of the season on Thursday.

Kristen Nelson scored three goals to lead the attack for the Knights. Sonia Julio Untener, Alice Martin and Gabby Bucci each had two goals and Reese Rosenfeld and Elasayd Okuley scored a goal apiece.

Julio Untener and Rosenfeld each contributed two assists, and Martin, Camila Salgado and Ariana Vasallo each added an assist.

The Knights lost to visiting Wade Hampton on Friday, 23-3. They have games remaining tonight at Dorman and Tuesday at Westside.

  • The Varsity boys lacrosse team lost at Wade Hampton on Friday, 8-6. The Knights will play their final game on Tuesday at Westside.
  • The JV girls beat Wade Hampton 10-4 to remain perfect on the season at 10-0.

Liza May Perry had four goals, an assist and eight ground balls for the Knights, and Kristin Levato had four goals and three ground balls. Anna Page Sparkman had a goal and two ground balls, and Maeve Alvis had a goal and a ground ball.

Also for the Knights, Maris Mitchell and Sydney Sullivan each had two ground balls, and Kaia Jacoby and Henley Wireman each had one ground ball.

The Knights have one game remaining -- tonight at Dorman -- in their quest to complete an undefeated season.
