Roundup: Soccer, Track, Baseball, Lacrosse
The SJCS Varsity soccer teams traveled to the coast over the weekend and played matches against Bluffton and Hilton Head Island.
On Friday, the Varsity boys defeated Bluffton 4-1.
Jonny Bunecke had two goals and an assist for the Knights, and Torsten Grunefeld had a goal and an assist. Martin Simon also scored a goal, and Liam Montes contributed an assist.
The next day, the Knights beat Hilton Head Island 1-0 on penalty kicks.
The Varsity girls shut out Bluffton 4-0 on Friday.
Reagan Grace had two goals and an assist; Caroline Mruz had a goal and an assist; Caroline Getz had a goal; and Lola Kelly had an assist.
On Saturday, the girls lost to Hilton Head Island 2-1.
On Sunday, both teams gathered to attend Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church on Hilton Head Island.
Track and Field
Eva Cifuni placed first and several other SJCS athletes placed at the Chick-fil-A-Games, a prestigious meet at Eastside High School on Saturday featuring 33 schools.
Cifuni won the 3,200-meter run and also placed fifth in the 1,600.
In the boys meet, Ren Scoville took eighth in the discus.
The Knights' 4x200 relay team of Lucas Salgado, Eliot Power, William Gillespie and Paul Norman finished second, and the 800 sprint medley relay team of Power, Norman, Sam Patterson and Thomas Potter came in fourth.

Junior Varsity Baseball
John Campbell doubled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth inning and the host Knights defeated Gaffney 5-4 in five innings on Friday in the Broome High School tournament.
With two outs in the fourth, Miles Parrick singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Campbell's double, breaking a 4-4 tie.
Campbell had two hits and scored two runs. Dean Dryden and Mason Kuzmich each knocked in a run.
Alex Gibeau picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief.
On Saturday, Byrnes defeated St. Joe's 16-1 in four innings. Dryden had the only hit for the Knights, and Warren Bach drove in the run.
The Knights finished the tournament with a record of 3-1.
Lacrosse
On Friday, hosting Philip Simmons, the JV girls lacrosse team won 5-4. The Varsity lost 17-1.
The Varsity boys lost to visiting Denmark (Ga.), 19-2.
On Saturday, the Varsity boys hosted Asheville School and lost 18-5.
