Roundup: Soccer, Tennis, Softball, Golf, Lacrosse
Nine different players scored goals as the SJCS Varsity girls soccer team cruised to a 13-1 victory over visiting Carolina High on Monday night in a Region 2-3A game.
Lola Kelly had a hat trick and two assists for the Knights (5-1, 3-0), and Reagan Grace and Caroline Getz each had two goals and two assists.
Meghan Noonan, Caroline Mruz, Macie Anderson and Annie Walters each recorded a goal and an assist. Sydney Reyes and Lula Johnson each scored once, and Taylor Hargett, Peyton Jenkins and Mariana Cantu each had an assist.
Boys Soccer
Liam Montes scored a pair of goals to lead the Varsity boys to a 5-2 region win at Carolina High on Monday night.
Jonny Bunecke and Rhys Roberts each had a goal and an assist for the Knights (5-0, 3-0), who remained unbeaten overall and in the region.
Andrew Moore-King also scored a goal, and Daniel Leon-Osorio had an assist.
- The JV Knights lost 1-0.
Varsity Boys Tennis
Whit Wilkins and Hampton Norwood won at No. 1 doubles to clinch the Knights' 4-3 victory on the road against Class 5A Wade Hampton on Monday night.
"It was a great match and a great win as well," Knights Coach Ken Arp said. "You can't get much closer than three different tie-breakers to decide the final score. We lost one but won the other two.
"It was tough windy conditions, and everyone played pretty well considering we were also just coming back from spring break. We should feel pretty good about this one for sure."
Charlie Walters and Brodie Miller, playing No. 2 doubles, also won a tie-breaker. Wilkins and Norwood also were victorious at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively.

Softball
The Knights rallied late but fell short in a home loss against the Greenville Hurricanes Monday.
Trailing 7-4, the Knights scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the seventh before the Hurricanes clinched the victory.
Sydney Slater had a pair of doubles, and Jackie Garrett had two hits and drove in a run. Eva Carraturo, Bentley Thompson, Emerson Tate, Kate Noel and Stella Nash each had a hit.
Addie Murphy pitched the first five innings and allowed six runs (three earned) and six hits, struck out five and walked four. Slater pitched the last two innings, allowing a run on one hit.
Boys Golf
The Knights came in third in a tri-match at Smithfields Country Club in Easley on Monday. Host Powdersville won with 161; Palmetto, at 188, was just a few shots ahead of the Knights' 191.
"Tight fairways lined with out-of-bounds and matched with strong winds tested the trust and confidence in our game," SJCS Coach Ted Coia said. "Likewise, the slippery greens added to the challenges of the day.
"Experience is the best teacher, and the Knights got a lesson at Smithfields. It will serve us well over the coming months."
Bryce Chapman led the Knights with a 42, recovering from a slow start to claim the third best score of the day. George Covington and Hudson Wolfram carded 48s, and Cael Roberts added 53 to round out the team total.
Lacrosse
The Varsity girls lost at Mauldin, 15-3.
- The JV girls continued their winning ways, defeating the Mavericks 8-4.
- The Varsity boys, playing on the road against Hillcrest, lost 14-2.
