Roundup: Varsity Boys Soccer Team Defeats CCES
The SJCS Varsity boys soccer team scored an early goal and made it stand in a 1-0 victory over arch rival Christ Church on Wednesday night.
Martin Simon found the back of the net about 10 minutes into the first half, and goalkeeper Josh Linebaugh and the defense helped the host Knights post their eighth shutout of the season.
St. Joe's (9-2, 5-1) is in second place in Region 2-3A, one game behind Powdersville.
- The JV Knights lost to Christ Church on penalty kicks, 1-0.
The match was scoreless through regulation and the two five-minute overtime periods, and the Cavaliers won with a 5-4 edge in PKs.
Girls Soccer
The Varsity girls lost on the road against Christ Church, 6-0. The Knights dropped to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the region.
The JV Knights also lost to the Cavaliers, 1-0.
Varsity Track and Field
The Knights had three individuals and one relay team place on the final day of the Greenville County Track & Field Championships at Eastside High School on Wednesday.
Odette Brown (2:20) and Eva Cifuni (5:09) finished fourth in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs, respectively, with both posting person-record (PR) times.
Lucas Salgado (11.41) took seventh in the 100-meter dash. Salgado, Matt Patterson, Sam Patterson and William Gillespie placed seventh in the 4x400 relay (3.35).
Boys Tennis
The Varsity boys lost on the road Wednesday against Christ Church, 6-0.
The JV boys lost at home against the Cavaliers, 6-1, but SJCS Coach Kevin Meyer said his team has made significant progress.
We've definitely improved since the last time we played them," Coach Meyer said. "We won number one doubles, and we had good matches at number one and number two singles, even though we were missing Kolbe (Hanson)."
Hanson, the team's No. 1 player, was playing with the Varsity, which was missing its No. 1 player, Whit Wilkins, who was sidelined by illness.

Varsity Boys Golf
The Knights played a tri-match against Christ Church and Powdersville at The Preserve at Verdae Golf Club on Wednesday. Christ Church came in first with 153, followed by Powdersville at 164 and then St. Joe's at 180.
Cael Roberts carded a 41 to lead the Knights, and Hudson Wolfram was next at 45. Smith Crick and Clyde Williams each shot 47, followed by George Covington at 49 and Max McGregor at 51.
Middle School Baseball
The Middle School Knights lost to visiting Christ Church 12-2 in five innings on Wednesday.
Guy Henry and Jack Copeland each had a hit and drove in a run for the Knights.
JV Boys Lacrosse
The JV boys lost on the road against Fountain Inn, 20-0.
