Roundup: Girls Soccer Wins on Senior Night
Caroline Getz celebrated Senior Night by scoring two goals to lead the SJCS Varsity girls soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Southside Christian in a Region 2-3A match on Thursday night.
Before the match, Getz and classmates Kaitlyn Hanley, Meghan Noonan and Peyton Jenkins were recognized and honored for their contributions to the program over the years.
The Sabres then scored just seconds into the match. The Knights (7-1, 4-0) tied the score by halftime and dominated the second half.
Reagan Grace also scored a goal, and Lola Kelly and Caroline Mruz each had an assist.
- The JV Knights lost to the Sabres, 3-1.
Boys Soccer
Jonny Bunecke and Matteo Rosa each scored a goal, and the Varsity boys registered a 2-0 win over host Southside Christian in a Region 2-3A match on Thursday night.
Daniel Leon-Osorio and Rhys Roberts each contributed an assist for the Knights (7-0, 4-0).
- The JV Knights also were victorious, beating the Sabres 3-1.
Varsity Boys Tennis
Whit Wilkins, Jeremiah Adams and Hampton Norwood won singles matches, and the Varsity Knights defeated host Southside Christian 4-3 in a Region 2-3A match on Thursday.
Wilkins and Norwood also won at No. 1 doubles.
"This doubles team is really gelling," SJCS Coach Ken Arp said. "I can't wait to see them play the rest of the season."

Varsity Baseball
Jackson Campbell had three hits of the Knights' 18 hits and knocked in four runs, and the Varsity beat the host Greenville Hurricanes 12-7 on Thursday night at Conestee Park.
John Eberstein and JP Rambo each had three hits, and Eberstein had two RBIs. Henry Dryden, Ben McKay and Cole Alt each had two hits.
Starter Lucas Thompson pitched the first four innings, allowed four runs (two earned) and two hits, struck out five and walked one to earn the victory. Nolan Green picked up the save.
JV Baseball
Dean Dryden drove in a pair of runs and scored twice, and the JV Knights defeated the Hurricanes 6-3.
Barrett Barnhill had two hits and scored two runs, and John Campbell, Brayden Royal, Alex Gibeau and Josh Lyons each knocked in a run.
Royal, the starter and winning pitcher, blanked the Hurricanes for two innings and did not allow a hit.
