Roundup: Boys Lacrosse Team Recognizes Seniors
The Varsity boys lacrosse team honored its seniors before its game against Woodmont on Friday night.
The Knights recognized Jackson Evette, Jackson Farrar, Murphy Ivey, Chase Kennedy, Collin Massey and Mills McCauley for their contributions to the program over the years.
The score was tied at halftime, 3-3, but Woodmont went on to win 7-5.
This past Wednesday, the Varsity boys were losing 6-0 at Hillcrest when the game was called due to lightning. The JV boys lost at Hillcrest 13-1.
Girls Lacrosse
The Varsity girls played tough at home against Woodmont on Thursday, losing 11-9. The Knights lost the next night at Heathwood Hall in Columbia, 16-0.
The JV Knights beat Heathwood Hall 10-0 to remain undefeated at 8-0.
Boys Soccer
The SJCS Varsity boys defeated visiting Daniel 2-1 on penalty kicks Wednesday in a match between two of the top programs in the state.
The score was tied 1-1 through regulation and the overtime periods. Jonny Bunecke scored the Knights' goal, with an assist from Daniel Leon-Osorio. St. Joe's had the edge in PKs, 5-3.
The Knights are 8-0 and No. 2 in Class 3A according to MaxPrep rankings. Daniel is 10-4 and No. 4 in 4A.
The JV Knights also won, 2-1.
Girls Soccer
Caroline Mruz and Caroline Getz each scored a goal, and the Varsity Knights beat host Southside Christian 2-0 in a Region 2-3A match Wednesday night.
Reagan Grace and Lola Kelly each contributed an assist for the Knights (8-1, 5-0). Lillie Mendelson made five saves in posting the shutout.
The JV Knights lost 3-0.
Boys Golf
Sunshine, warm temperatures and cool breezes were the order of the day in Ninety Six as the Knights competed in the Tee-Off Classic at The Fort Club.
The Knights carded a 337 to tie for 11th place in the 19-team field, one stroke behind playing partner Hillcrest but a few ahead of region rival Southside Christian's 341.
Smith Crick led the team with a season-best 78, placing him in the top quintile among individuals. His round featured an eagle 2 on the par-4 12th hole -- simply a cannon-shot drive knocking out the dogleg, followed by a 30-foot putt.
Captain Bryce Chapman contributed an 81 to the team's total, while a trio of Knights -- Clyde Williams, Max McGregor and Cael Roberts, all playing the course for the first time - recorded 89, 89 and 94, respectively.
The Knights had been scheduled to compete Monday in the Greenville County Championship at Thornblade Club, but it was postponed due to the inclement weather.
Softball
Bentley Thompson knocked in four runs to lead the SJCS softball team to a 7-5 win over visiting Southside Christian on Thursday.
Thompson had a run-scoring single in the first inning and a three-run, inside-the-park homer in the third. Jackie Garrett had three hits and two RBIs for the Knights. Stella Nash had a triple and scored three runs, and Addie Murphy drove in a run.
Murphy went the distance, allowing five runs (two earned) on nine hits, with nine strikeouts and three walks.
On Wednesday, the host Knights defeated Thornwell 23-11 in five innings.
Murphy pitched the first three innings, allowing three runs (none earned) on three hits, with three strikeouts and no walks.
Abby Green had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs. Kate Noel had two hits, scored three runs and knocked in a run, and Eva Carraturo drove in a run.
Varsity Baseball
The Varsity Knights lost at Southside Christian 10-0 in five innings Thursday night in a Region 2-3A game.
Sabres junior left-hander Carson Boleman, a Wake Forest commit, pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowed no hits and struck out 14.
Bennett Chandler came on to get the final out and also gave up the Knights' only hit, a double by Henry Dryden.
JV Baseball
Josh Lyons had three hits, including a two-run homer, and knocked in three runs to lead the JV Knights to a 12-5 win at Southside Christian on Thursday.
Alex Gibeau had three hits, two RBIs and scored three runs. Dean Dryden had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run; Brayden Royal had two hits and scored twice and Mason Kuzmich had two RBIs.
Royal pitched the first four innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits, and Lyons pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Middle School Baseball
Guy Henry had three hits and three RBIs, and the Middle School Knights defeated visiting Lead Academy 17-0 in three innings on Friday.
Jack Copeland and Michael Lynn each had two hits and two RBIs, and Levi Norris knocked in two runs. Hampton Uzas, Miles Lynn and Alex Ashy each drove in a run.
On Thursday, the Knights lost at Southside Christian, 8-3. Norris and Miles Lynn each drove in a run.
JV Boys Tennis
The Knights played at JL Mann on Thursday and lost 7-1.
Julian Stewart and Kolbe Hanson recorded the lone victory, winning 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
