Roundup: Baseball Team Falls Short on Senior Night
Christ Church overcame an early deficit and defeated the Varsity Knights 8-4 in a Region 2-3A baseball game Tuesday night.
Before the game, the Knights recognized six seniors for their contributions to the program over the years: Cade Alt, Cole Alt, Henry Eilers, Ben McKay, Liam Okuley and JP Rambo. A seventh, Henry Dryden, was unable to attend due to illness.
The Cavaliers scored two runs in the top of the first, but the Knights quickly regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
After singles by Jackson Campbell and Quinn Walsh and a walk to John Eberstein loaded the bases, Rambo hit into a fielder's choice to drive in the first run. Then with two outs, Frank Remsberg singled to left, knocking in two runs and making it 3-2.
Campbell homered to left in the second inning to give the Knights a 4-2 lead.
Christ Church went on top with three runs in the third inning and added three more in the seventh.
Campbell and Walsh each had two hits for St. Joe's.
Rambo pitched the first six innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on just three hits. He struck out eight and walked six.
Middle School Baseball
Langston Charter scored six runs in the first inning and went on to a 9-2 win over the Middle School Knights at Sunset Park in Mauldin.
Miles Lynn and Larry Bolchoz each drove in a run for the Knights, and Beau Barnhill and Guy Henry each had a hit.
Varsity Softball
The Knights lost at Powdersville 12-1. Addie Murphy had a hit and scored the Knights' run, and Jackie Garrett had a double.
Varsity Boys Tennis
The Varsity boys earned what Coach Ken Arp called "a nice gut-check win" on Tuesday by beating host Powdersville 4-3 in a Region 2-3A match.
"The lower part of the lineup lit it up," said Coach Arp, whose team's No. 1 player, Whit Wilkins, was sidelined by illness. "We had super good wins for Hampton (Norwood) and (Alexander Millener) in tie-breakers and solid play from Charlie (Walters), and Byron Webb did a great job at number five for the clinching point."
