Knights Qualify for Class 3A State Track Meet

A total of 17 members of the SJCS track and field team -- 11 boys and six girls -- qualified for the Class 3A state meet with their performances in this past Saturday's District 2 qualifier at Broome High School in Spartanburg.

The state meet is scheduled for Saturday, May 17 at 9:00 AM at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia.

Among the girls, Eva Cifuni (1600, 3200), Odette Brown (800, 1600) and Payton Picciuto (800, 1600) qualified in multiple individual events. Among the boys, Lucas Salgado (100, 200) qualified in more than one individual event.

Salgado finished third in the qualifier with his time of 11.04, which lowered his school record for the second time this season. He set the previous record of 11.07 on April 1 in a meet at Southside Christian.

Salgado also was part of the Knights' record-setting effort in the 4x400 relay, along with Matt Patterson, William Gillespie and Sam Patterson. Their winning time of 3:30.92 eclipsed the previous mark of 3:33.35 set in 2016 by Ford McCoy, Mathew Nassif, Jacob Peterman and Liam Martin.
