Knights Blank Cavs in Annual Fluor Field Game

Knights Blank Cavs in Annual Fluor Field Game

The SJCS Varsity baseball team made its annual trek to Fluor Field on Monday night and promptly scored two runs in the top of the first inning.

That was more than enough with JP Rambo pitching for the Knights.

Rambo blanked Christ Church for 5.2 innings, and the Knights posted a 5-0 victory in a Region 2-3A game played at the home of the Greenville Drive.

Rambo, a senior left-hander, allowed five hits while striking out six and walking two. Senior right-hander Liam Okuley completed the shutout, allowing one hit while striking out two.

The Knights (8-3, 3-0), who have won seven of their last eight games, struck quickly and then let Rambo go to work.

After walks to the first two batters, Henry Dryden and Jackson Campbell, Ben McKay lined a double down the right-field line, scoring Dryden and sending Campbell to third.

Frank Remsberg dropped down a beautiful bunt that moved the runners up, scoring Campbell to make it 2-0.

Quinn Walsh led off the second with a single and scored one out later when Dryden slammed a pitch into the left-center-field gap for a double.

It was 3-0 until the fifth. Dryden led off with a walk, and Campbell drove the ball deep into left-center field. Dryden scored and Campbell wound up with a triple.

Then it was McKay's turn to execute a sacrifice to perfection. Campbell scored to make it 5-0, and McKay reached first on an error.

The Cavaliers loaded the bases in the sixth, but Okuley snuffed out the rally with a groundout back to the pitcher. Then he retired the side in order in the seventh, striking out the final two batters.
