SJCS Girls Soccer Team Rolls into Third Round

The SJCS girls soccer team had a second straight lopsided victory in the Class 3A playoffs, this one a 9-0 win over visiting West-Oak on Friday night.

The Knights (13-5), seeded fourth in the Upper State, will play top-seeded (and Region 3 champion) Greer Middle College (14-3-2) at 6:00 PM Tuesday at Fulp Field on the campus of Converse University.

The winner of that match will play the winner of No. 10 Southside Christian at No. 3 Christ Church for the Upper State championship, which means three of the final four in the Upstate (St. Joe's, SCS and CCES) are from Region 2.

St. Joe's, coming off an 8-0 win over Crescent in the first round, led fifth-seeded West-Oak 4-0 at halftime and maintained the momentum in the second half.

Lola Kelly scored three goals and assisted on four others. Reagan Grace and Caroline Getz each had two goals, and Taylor Hargett scored once.

Ava Wright contributed two assists, and Hargett, Claire Walters and Sydney Reyes each had one.

Lillie Mendelson and Ellery Watts (who played the final 25 minutes in goal) combined on the shutout.
