Girls Soccer, Baseball Teams Open With Wins

Seven different players scored, and the SJCS girls soccer team rolled to an 8-0 victory over visiting Crescent in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs Tuesday night.

Meghan Noonan had two goals, and Taylor Hargett, Ava Wright, Reagan Grace, Lola Kelly, Caroline Getz and Annie Walters each scored once for St. Joe's, the second seed out of Region 2 and the No. 4 seed in the Upper State.

CLASS 3A GIRLS SOCCER BRACKET

Kelly had four assists, and Hargett, Grace, Getz and Macie Anderson each had one assist to help the Knights (12-5) ease past Crescent, the fifth seed out of Region 1 and No. 13 overall.

St. Joe's moves on to host West-Oak (No. 2 in Region 1 and No. 5 in the Upper State) in the second round at 5:30 PM Friday. The Warriors beat Broome in the first round, 4-3 on penalty kicks.

The Knights scored six runs in the third inning and went on to an 8-2 win over visiting West-Oak in the first round of the double-elimination Class 3A District 2 tournament Tuesday night.

St. Joe's, the No. 2 seed out of Region 2 and the No. 4 seed in the Upper State, will host Broome (No. 2 out of Region 1, No. 5 overall) in a winners' bracket game at 4:30 PM Thursday, with the winner of that game advancing to Monday's district championship.

CLASS 3A BASEBALL BRACKET

Against West-Oak, Henry Dryden had three hits, knocked in two runs and scored two runs. He drove in a run with a single in the six-run third inning and belted a solo home run in the sixth.

Dean Dryden also drove in two runs, with a sacrifice fly and a double. John Eberstein, Frank Remsberg and Nolan Green each knocked in a run.

JP Rambo shut out the Warriors for the first 6 1/3 innings on two hits while striking out seven.
