According to the Daily Foundation website, "The DAISY Award is a recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers." It is "a way to thank nurses for the care and kindness they provide."

The daughter of one of Emily's patients nominated her. The following are excerpts from the nomination:

"Emily was an exceptional nurse from the very beginning of her shift. She cared for my dad in a way that demonstrated that she wasn't just 'doing a job' or in it 'for the money.' ... It was clear that she truly cared about people and their well being. Throughout her entire 12-hour shift, she exhibited qualities of an ideal nurse: knowledgeable, observant, thorough, punctual, caring, compassionate, respectful, helpful and kind.

"My dad and I felt comfortable and supported. Every nurse should aspire to be as thoughtful and compassionate as Emily. Today, Emily truly SHINED like the STAR nurse she is. ... She absolutely deserves recognition for the exceptional care she provides to everyone."

Congratulations, Emily, on this wonderful achievement!
