Coach Surprised Upon 'Jan Carino Court' Reveal

Coach Surprised Upon 'Jan Carino Court' Reveal

No one has had more success on the gymnasium floor at St. Joseph's Catholic School than Jan Carino, and so it is appropriate that the court now bears her name.

Coach Carino was surprised Monday morning when it was revealed to her that this fall, her volleyball team will be playing on "Jan Carino Court."

Thinking she was coming to school for a meeting with Athletic Director Eric Nash, Coach Carino entered the gym to find several members of her family and numerous students, coaches and staff waiting to greet and honor her for her many years of service and dedication to St. Joseph's.

It was an emotional moment for Coach Carino, who served as the school's Athletic Director from 1998 through 2015 and became its first Hall of Fame inductee upon her retirement as AD.

She remains the only volleyball coach the school has had, having led the Knights to 12 state championships in the 26 years she has steered the program.

The gym floor was redone with the new logos accompanying the new surface, along with the two spots honoring Coach Carino.

Considering her reaction, it was clearly a signature moment.
